About the show
Join Mama Alto one more time in the original Butterfly Club showroom before it relocates to a fabulous new home. For this farewell performance to the beautiful old venue, Mama Alto & pianist Tiffanni Walton will reprise their acclaimed 2012 jazz cabaret “Porgy & Bess Project” for a one-night-only special. First performed to packed houses at the original premises of The Butterfly Club during the 2012 Melbourne Fringe Festival, this project is an evocative dialogue between the immortal songs of Porgy & Bess and the unique vocals of countertenor diva & cabaret artiste Mama Alto (Benny Dimas). Accompanied by the piano stylings of Tiffanni Walton, the performance “blurs gender and stylistic lines freely, while never sacrificing the score’s beauty, integrity, or passion” (James Gavin, music author) to create “a celebration of individuality and it yields a joyous and poignant journey through some important and enduring material.” (James Cerche, themusic.com.au).

OTHER UPCOMING PERFORMANCES
Final Gala for The Butterfly Club, February 8th
Note: An apology
Contrary to what I have previously announced, I will not be performing in the February 8th Final Gala for The Butterfly Club. This is due to overwhelming interest in performing at the gala from many artists; to ease this number artists who are performing in the show room during the final week will not be performing at the gala. Therefore I encourage you to book tickets for my February 5th show in the showroom… And I do recommend you attend the Final Gala which will be a stellar night. I’ll be in the audience and I’ll be attending the after party - the fabulous last party at the original South Melbourne club before it closes down. I’ll see you there!
